The Yibal Khuff Project (YKP), is located in Oman and operated by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). Spanning an area of 1.68 square kilometers within the Yibal cluster, YKP represents a significant milestone in PDO’s efforts to meet the country’s growing medium and long-term oil and gas demands. Once the plant is fully operational, YKP is expected to produce 20,000 barrels of crude oil per day and five million cubic meters of gas per day. Additionally, it will extract approximately 235 tons of sulfur daily
Key Issues
The Yibal Khuff Oil and Gas Management decided to install a 1 x 13.2 MW turbine for power generation to enhance energy independence and reduce reliance on external grids. By incorporating this turbine, the facility can generate its power, which supports cost savings and allows for future expansion. Additionally, this decision aids in complying with environmental regulations by providing a cleaner energy source tailored to both current and future needs.
Solution

EPESOL was awarded by GE Grid Solutions with the commissioning of five generators, approximately 13.2 MW, for the Yibal Khuff Project. EPESOL’s engineers play an integral role in conducting hot commissioning of generator and protection systems, synchronization, and power source reliability tests. Over nearly four months, by providing extensive manpower to ensure a reliable power generation, enabling continuous gas extraction from the well and processing operations despite the absence of utility. This project underscores EPESOL’s technical expertise and commitment to overcoming challenges, ensuring operational self-sufficiency, and delivering exceptional results.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Yibal Khuff Project’s strategic commissioning of one generator, with a total capacity of approximately 13.2 MW, effectively addresses the lack of grid power generation. By entrusting EPESOL with this crucial task, GE Grid Solutions ensured the provision of a reliable and efficient power source, supporting the project’s continuous and successful operation. This collaborative effort underscores a commitment to overcoming logistical challenges and optimizing Algeria’s natural gas resources, thereby making a significant contribution to the country’s energy sector and economic growth.
