The Sea of Pakistan boasts diverse marine life and numerous fish species. However, the majority of fishing vessels are traditional wooden/GRP boats (Howra) or trawlers. These vessels typically feature low-powered engines, rely on visual fishing methods, and utilize simple holds with crushed ice and saltwater for fish storage. They generally lack modern sensors, advanced fishing equipment, and quality preservation systems.
Recognizing this opportunity, M/s FIN conceived the idea to construct Purse Seiner Fishing Vessels. They selected M/s EPESOL as their preferred designer and consultant due to EPESOL’s team of Naval Architects. EPESOL understood the client’s requirements and developed a Purse Seiner design that meets contemporary vessel standards while being feasible to build within the local boat building infrastructure, with EPESOL’s guidance and support.
SOLUTION
- Thoroughly reviewed client requirements and translated them into a practical design meeting the client’s needs.
- Prepared the Architectural Design for a 20-meter fishing vessel.
- Conducted comprehensive hydrodynamic analysis, hydrostatic and stability calculations, weight and space control, escape, and ergonomics design for the Purse Seiner Vessel.
- Developed the Structural Design and provided production drawings to the shipyard.
- Created the Deck Layout design for the installation of fishing equipment.
- Designed the Electrical Power Generation and Distribution system and provided production drawings.
- Prepared the Piping Design for all systems and provided production drawings.
- Carried out the Inclination test of the Purse Seiner and prepared the Stability Booklet for all loading conditions.
- Assisted in identifying a suitable boat building yard and vendors for boat construction, fabrication, and installation of fishing equipment and deck fittings.
- Provided consultancy and guidance on interpreting construction drawings, weight control, installation of electrical and piping systems, fabrication of accommodation spaces, installation of underwater sensors and sonars, resolving contractual disputes, and participating in trials and acceptance.
CONCLUSION:
EPESOL successfully provided a viable solution to M/s Fin for building a modern Purse Seiner within the local boat building infrastructure. Their design and consultancy services throughout the shipbuilding process were instrumental in the successful construction of the first-ever Purse Seiner boat in Pakistan.
